This Cocktail Pac Man was the 2nd machine to enter my personal collection. This machine was also accompanied by a Cocktail Asteroids in the same purchase deal. This Pac was discovered locally, as with all of the games in my collection. The guy that had this said that he had bought it brand new for his wife and kids and had it in his basement rec room since. It was working but had some issues. The sound was out, player one joystick only moved right, the monitor was really warped and discolored. The paint on the player one control panel was also worn from normal use. As you can see below, the original glass top was pretty scratched up as with the graphics underneath were gross. I will try to get more shots of this soon..
Below is a shot down into the bowels of the cocktail cabinet. The inside was pretty clean and nothing had be hacked around with. Just some minor cleaning in here was needed.
Upon diagnosing the sound problem, it was evident that the problem was only that the wire had loosened away from the speaker terminal. Easy fix.... After looking into the player one joystick issue, i figured that a good cleaning on all of the switches would be the first logical thing to do. Bingo... Another easy fix...
Above and below, you will
see some pictures of the Pac with a new glass top and a new Pac Man graphics
reproduction underlay. The metal glass clips around the edges were also
sanded, primered and repainted. Player One and Player Two control
panels were also redone, and new control panel overlays were applied.
The monitor problems were
fixed by installing a new "cap kit" on the monitor chassis and a new horizonal
width coil. These were both purchased through the Bob Roberts website.
He's on the link page..
The only thing i would really
like to do yet, is replace the faded T-Molding. That will come some other
day..
I have recently added the Ms. Pac daughter board so i may play Ms. Pac Man. Hopefully some day i can afford to throw in a Two Bit Score ABC Kit which plays 16 games in 1, or the Clay Cowgill "Multi-Pac" Kit. Also looking into a 4 in 1 mod from a local guy that does KILLER work. It is a Pac Man / Ms. Pac Man that plays both FAST and SLOW...
